SPEAKING OF EDUCATION:

Round #3 of the Pictoplasma Academy master-class is coming up soon, deadline for applications is now only +-1 week away!

Approximately 30 international participants will have the chance to closely collaborate with leading visual artists and producers and find a path to further develop their own personal projects. The schedule of the 8 day character boot camp (September 26 – October 4) is insanely dense and will keep participants busy each day from the early morning till late at night. A rough glimpse of what to expect can be viewed HERE

But it doesn’t end there: During the half year following the course, participants stay in regular touch for close guidance with their tutors and faculty, and receive thorough, personal feedback leading up to the exclusive Academy group-show exhibition as central part of the official Pictoplasma Festival (Spring 2016), where all participants get the chance to present their personal work to a wide, professional, and international audience.

The deadline for applications is July 16! The Academy’s tutors will review all applications during the last week of July. Selected applicants will be notified by early August.

MEET YOUR FACULTY!

Rilla Alexander

Close guidance is guaranteed by the three Academy tutors.
Rilla Alexander
is a renown illustrator (with clients such as Museo del Prado, Puma, or Henkel), who has made a name for herself as children’s books author (Her Idea, Best Book in the World). After living in Berlin for a decade, the Australian born artist recently moved on to Portland, Oregon.

Rilla will help participants re-fine and outline their character hiding in a pile of pencil lines and work out its main graphical value via expression, posing and silhouette.

Nathan Jurevicius

Also originating from Australia is Nathan Jurevicius, who works in Toronto and oversees the development of his creations in license to considerable partners (Xbox, ABC Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Passion Pictures) – whether for games, animation film, graphic novels or toys. Nathan will work with the participants on defining the essence of their character, while minimising it to the max and preparing it to remain appealingly unique throughout different media, techniques and styles.

Mehdi Hercberg

Mehdi Hercberg from Paris, better known as Shoboshobo, is not only the master of contortionist drawings and wild characters, but permanently experiments in collaborative projects with other artists, musicians or fashion designers. At the Academy, Mehdi will help attendees to distill the relevance and meaning their project has and focus on how they can stage their character to a wider audience in an exhibition at the upcoming Pictoplasma Festival in 2016.

Benjamin van Oost

Daily workshops challenge attendees to translate their sketches and designs to other media and genres. Benjamin van Oost (Case Studyo/BamBam Gent) takes limited edition sculpting to new heights and manages the entire production process of creative products and art installations for artists such as Parra, FriendsWithYou, Superdeux, Darcel Disappoints, Andy Rementer or Jeremyville. At the Academy he will do the same for participants in a hands-on sculpting and manufacturing workshop.

Matt Jones

Matt Jones (Lunartik) is best known within the Designer Toy Scene for designing and self-producing his own designer vinyl figures Lunartik in a Cup of Tea. He also manages overseas production with a passion for perfection and detail. At the Academy, Matt will lead participants through all stages from sculpting to molding and casting, to create limited edition art multiples.

STUDIO AKA

Philip Hunt is director and Creative Director of London-based STUDIO AKA, a multi Award-winning animation production company known internationally for their idiosyncratic and innovative work, currently hyped for the recently launched HEY DUGGEE series. Philip will help Academy attendees to define their character’s attributes, biography and depth, to enable strong stories and memorable encounters – and prevent them from slipping 'in and out of character.'

If all or any of the above is for you, NOW is the time to snap into action.

Characters R' Us,

Peter and Lars
