PICTOPLASMA
CONFERENCE & FESTIVAL
OF CONTEMPORARY CHARACTER DESIGN AND ART

4 – 8 MAY 2016

Fast forward 10 weeks from now, and once again Pictoplasma will transform sunny Berlin into the world’s most exciting meeting point for a diverse scene of international artists and creatives, trailblazing the face of tomorrow’s visual culture. Latest additions to the truly eclectic line-up of presenting artists include:

Parisian born and bred master of the fine-liner Ugo Gattoni is currently gathering quite some attention for his high-end collaboration with Hermès. His surreal and exquisitely detailed portraits, depictions of cityscapes, and strange, otherworldly artefacts are a monochromatic whirlwind of minute details with an unparalleled level of skill.

Amelie Fléchais

Amelie Fléchais, children’s book author and visual development artist for Cartoon Saloon and Dreamworks Animation, is renown for her intricate, textured and colourful illustrations. Her whimsical and joyous work is full of inventive fantasy creatures that seem to have popped out of a mythical world of her own invention.

Wilfrid Wood

With a background as ‘headbuilder’ of the legendary TV programme ‘Spitting Image’, London based artist Wilfrid Wood is known for his dis-figurative sculptural portraits of made up personalities, celebrities, friends, or strangers that he simply likes the look of – always getting as much character as possible out of the lump of clay he’s using.

Ben Newman

Having developed a distinct aesthetic over the years, UK artist Ben Newman is famed for his contemporary fusion of bold shapes, bright colours and playful characters, often described as ‘bauhaus fuzzy felt.’ Apart from producing work for a large range of clients, his practice extends into best-selling children’s books, worldwide exhibitions, paintings and three dimensional collaborations.

Cécile Dormeau

French born, Germany based illustrator Cécile Dormeau worked in graphic design agencies and as art director in advertising for two years before starting her artistic career. From body-aware selfies to uncontrollable hair growth, using simple bold lines and bright colours, she creates cheeky illustrations and GIFs that playfully explore the image we have of our body and tongue-in-cheek gender issues.
