Escaping the chilly darkness of winter in Berlin is always a good idea. Our annual PictoTour has lead us to sunny Mexico City, where we are currently surrounded by a dazzling level of luminous talent at the first PictoplasmaMX Academy masterclass. In just a few days, on November 4, we're about to magically resurface in the heart of Manhattan, for the long awaited 5th edition of the PictoplasmaNYC Conference.

Things could go on like this forever, but after all, there's no place like home - and our personal Character wonderland happens to be nowhere else than at the...

Coming May 2017, the original, full-scale PICTOPLASMA FESTIVAL BERLIN unfolds the world's leading and largest celebration of contemporary character design and art, with an overload of inspiring artist presentations, conference lectures, illuminating animation screenings, character walk exhibitions, performances and all-night parties!
13 seems to be our lucky number: look at the impressive first batch of confirmed conference speakers:

Saen Charmatz

Sean Charmatz
(US), former writer director on Spongebob Squarepants and designer + storyboard artist for Disney and Dreamworks, currently creating some of the internet's most viral content by combining his knack for storytelling with found objects observed in daily life.

  Chris Haughton

Chris Haughton
(UK), Irish illustrator and author of best selling books such as 'A Bit Lost', 'Oh No George!' and 'Goodnight Everyone' with a strong interest in connecting design with fair trade.
Jack Sachs

Jack Sachs
(UK), freelance animator and designer living and working between London and Hong Kong, famed for his trademark jumbled up faces, bright colours and lumpy shapes influenced by the pioneers of early CGI.

  Miss Lotion

Miss Lotion
(DK) aka Louise Rosenkrands, illustrator from Denmark known for her bright and playful depictions of sassy, confident, positive women - including some occasional protruding lady bumps.
Peter Millard

Peter Millard
(UK), independent animation filmmaker from the Malvern Hills in England, retaining the DIY nature of his work by self funding himself with various part time jobs, while his surreal and absurdist output continues to awe audiences around the globe.

  Eran Hilleli

Eran Hilleli
(ISR), animation director currently based in Tel Aviv, Israel, merging simple shapes with cinematic flair to create faraway lands and mysterious characters inspired by old folk tales, Japanese animation from the 80s and early video games aesthetics.

This is also our annual shout out CALL FOR ENTRIES, as we're once more on the hunt for new and surprising character driven animation to grace the big screen at the accompanying Festival Screenings. Please feel invited to share your characters in motion and submit generously.
