CALL FOR ENTRIES
Oxford Dictionaries name it the word of the year, there's more than one App for that and the Pope's first one went viral immediately. We figure it's about time to counter the current craze of blurry duck faces and underexposed narcism with some true character.
As an Open Call for Entries, Pictoplasma invites all international designers, illustrators and artists to submit a self-portrait of their character for the big upcoming anniversary exhibition, scheduled to take place April 30 - May 12 2014 in the context of the 10th Pictoplasma Berlin Festival. To celebrate a decade of outstanding character-driven art, we decided to do so by paying tribute to the characters themselves: with a vast group-show, presenting numerous portraits of characters that have shaped and challenged our project during the past years.
And here's where you come in: A central installation will feature your stunning, new generations of visual characters, captured in today's media equivalent of the rather classical portrait format: the "Selfie"!
Help us explore the current status of contemporary character exhibitionism! Contribute to the Pictoplasma Portrait Project and send us pictures of your Characters, while they are taking snapshots of themselves!
That's right: The character selfie should depict a self portrait snapshot of your character, as if it were taken by your character with a hand-held digital camera or camera phone. Best case scenario: via mirror. How you do it - and which media you choose - is absolutely up to you. This can be an actual photo, an illustration, painting or any sort of graphical work: as long as the result depicts the snapshot that your character took of itself.
Please submit your Character Selfies as a JPG,
measuring at least 1748 x 1240 pixels, accompanied by the following information:
via Email to: selfie (at) pictoplasma (dot) com
Deadline for submissions to reach us is the 1st of March 2014.
The best entries will be presented as a central installation in the context of the main 10th Pictoplasma Festival exhibition, inviting all international conference attendees and the broad general public. Each featured work will be clearly credited and provide contact information. Thanks to the support of the German Federal Cultural Foundation the show will be staged in the beautiful remains of the St. Elisabeth Church and its adjunct parish hall, a classicist villa from the early 1900s.
OK, we rely on you and look forward to receiving your character selfie.
